Ostrich at Out of Africa Wildlife Park

Here are answers to questions we frequently hear from our visitors.

What is Out of Africa Wildlife Park? Out of Africa Wildlife Park is an opportunity to see animals from all over the world, especially Africa. Visitors enjoy an authentic replica of a real African Safari in the Serengeti. Out of Africa is home to over 400 wild-by-nature, animals. All of our animals are cared for with passion and respect. Our staff lives and works with them in a relaxed environment that encourages human/animal relationships.

What kind of animals will I see at Out of Africa? In addition to 40 big cats including lions, tigers and leopards, mountain lions, jaguar, you will see rhinoceros, bear, hyena, javelina, gemsbok, wolves, giraffe, wildebeest, sable, zebra, fallow deer, and more.  Reptile houses are built into the side of the dirt cliffs in the Wildlife Preserve. The Community Aviary is in Critter Court and home to over 100 different birds.

Are the animals trained? None of the animals at Out of Africa are trained. We don't subject them to training and performing tricks. We encourage social behavior that brings out their natural, playful instincts.

Will I be able to touch a big cat? No, not unless it’s one of the rare times we have babies. Check the website periodically for announcements of new arrivals. The animals here retain their wild nature and the interaction you see is the result of relationships that develop between caregivers and animals. They are relationships based on time, learning and mutual respect. Most of the animals enjoy watching and getting a close-up look at park visitors and you’ll have many opportunities to see the big cats and other animals only a few feet away.

Can I pet any of the animals? Yes! There will be opportunities to pet the more docile members of the animal kingdom. On our Safaris, you'll usually be able to feed and pet giraffe! You’ll also have an opportunity to pet our giant pythons and anacondas and more.

Are there ever any baby animals I can see or pet? Animals that are born at the Park remain at the Park for the rest of their natural lives. On rare occasions, there are babies, either born at the Park or brought in. We’ll announce all new arrivals on the website.

Are all the animals from Africa? Out of Africa is home to a wide variety of animals from around the world, especially Africa.

Do you have private tours?  Yes. Our customized, world's only, two-story Hummer is available for private Safari and Wildlife Preserve Tours conducted by our expert park guides.  And, we offer an exclusive Behind the Scenes VIP Tour by reservation only!

Can I buy souvenirs? Yes, while at the Park visit our gift shop, which reflects our love of animals, nature and cultures. You can shop for a wide variety of gifts, personal items, toys, clothing, cards, books, handmade African Tribal Art and much more. Many of our pieces are individually hand crafted and support tribal villages and artisans. There’s something for everyone in the family. Our website will soon feature an online gift store.

What type of food service is available at the Park? Light meals such as hamburgers, veggie burgers, bar-b-q chicken sandwiches, hot dogs, veggie wraps, smoothies, soups and salads are now available from an outdoor food service at the Park.

How long should we plan to visit the Park? We suggest you allow at least four hours to experience all the Park's adventures.
