This large 40-acre high desert plains habitat is home to many animals including giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, ostrich, and fallow deer. All of them are able to roam freely within the compound, greeting guests as they arrive in the safari vehicles. Drought-tolerant trees and shrubs offer the animals shade and privacy when desired and tall, giraffe-sized barns are provided for chilly nights.
Near the entrnce to the Serengeti, is a special six-acre habitat that is home to Boom Boom, Out of Africa’s rescued rhinoceros. Trees and shrubs offer privacy while large logs are provided for scratching and rubbing. Two wallows are also part of the habitat and a specially-constructed rustic warming hut offers protection for our handsome horned megafauna on chilly winter nights.
